Save money on energy

Powering you house becomes more and more expensive. The prices of energy are ricing. Switching to another power company can help a little, but not much. The best way to save some money on your energy usage is to actually use less energy. This doesn’t have to be hard. There are easy and simple ways to save some energy, without changing your lifestyle too much.

If you want to save some energy on lighting, a big energy consumer, try to replace some light bulbs with more energy efficient light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs use much less energy than traditional light bulbs, but they still emit the same amount of light. They convert more energy intro light, instead of heat. Because of this, a energy efficient light bulb uses much less energy to produce the same amount of light as a traditional light bulb.

Energy efficient light bulbs are more expensive to buy than traditional one, but their life time is longer. This way you will save money in the end. Replacing light bulbs is an easy way to save a lot of energy and money on lighting in your house.

Heating your house is also expensive. By isolating your house better, you can save energy on this activity. Isolation can be a bit expensive, but it will really pay off. It can save you a lot of energy and thus money. Besides, it will also help you cooling down your house during summer. Instead of keeping the coldness out of your house during winter, it will keep the summer heat out of your house during summer. An example of isolation is putting solar screens or blinds in front of the windows of your house. You can read more about this topic at the topic tree.

Saving energy doesn’t have to be a big deal and it can save you a lot of money. You don’t only help yourself by saving energy, you will also help your environment.

Ideas for Saving Money on Heating Costs

Winter has its share of charms, with snow-topped trees and white Christmases. Unfortunately, winter also has its share of unpleasantries such as the dreaded winter utility bills. The good news is that most people can find at least one way to cut down on their heating bills if they take a good look at their home and their habits. Why spend extra money if you don’t have to?

One big thing you can do is try to reduce your reliance on central heating. If you spend a lot of time in your living room in the evening, try using the fireplace instead of the heater. People who never seem to make it out of their home office might want to consider placing a space heater in that room and turning off the central heat. Also, be sure to close the vents in any rooms that you don’t use much such as spare bedrooms or the dining room. It doesn’t make much financial sense to pay to heat the entire house if you spend all your time in just one or two rooms.

You can also change your habits in a few small ways that can make a big difference when you open up those bills. Try to take shorter showers and don’t turn the hot water up all the way. Hot water isn’t very good for your skin anyway. Unless you have a very dirty job, you can wash your clothes in cold water which can save a significant amount of money if you tend to do a lot of laundry. Even switching to warm water can help save a few dollars every month.

Look around your house for any places that air could be escaping. Even small leaks can add up over time. Doors and windows are the most common culprits. A chimney is another place where large amounts of air can escape. Be sure to check your home thoroughly for leaks and pay special attention to the basement and attic.

Windows tend to be drafty, particularly in older homes. Thermal curtains are a great way to help keep the heat in the room. These curtains can help create a sort of seal around the window itself and their thick texture and light-blocking ability help to keep all the heat inside the room. There are a surprising number of ways to save money on bills if you think carefully about your home and your lifestyle. A few small routine changes can give you a lot more spending money.

Winterizing your home to save money

There are many ways we can save money during the winter months.  We lose a great deal of heat out of the house each winter as there are many cracks and crevices that do not appear to be large but really let much of the warm air out. The cost of heating in the winter is much greater than using the air conditioner in the summer.  Every little bit of warmth we keep in the house can really add up over the season.

Also, but not winterizing you risk damaging pipes that are close to the exposed areas and risk a possible bursting pipe that will cost big money.

Saving money on heating bills

It is the time of year for heating costs to begin to sky rocket.  Whether you have natural gas, propane and propane accessories, fuel oil, or whatever other heating resource, you heating costs are about to rise.  While the cost of heating is down this winter compared to years past, it is still expensive.  I am going to talk a bit about lower your heating costs by negotiating your natural gas contract with a new supplier.

If you are in an area where you can switch natural gas suppliers, call around and see if someone is offering a bettor rate than you already have.  Some may offer teaser rates for whatever mcf’s for a few months, which can save you huge this winter.  Be aware their are early termination fees if you cancel and go with another company within a year or so.

While you may not save a ton of money you can combine this with other money saving things to do this winter. Below is a list of things to help you save money on heating,

1. Turn down thermostat ( very obvious) and grab some blankets

2. Get a programmable thermostat or learn how to use the one you got

3. If you are wearing shorts in your house when it is 3 degrees out then just do not bother reading the rest, you do not want to save money.

4. Check for drafts and huge cracks in the doors. Use some weatherstripping and seal them.

5. Get furnace tuned up and change the filter.

6. Do not turn on your electric stove for heat.  If you do this, hopefully you cannot read this post, since that money should be paying your gas bill.

7. Get a wood burning stove.  Yeah I know then you will have to buy wood.  Well, deal with it.

8. Get another job to make more money so you do not have to turn heat down.  Why do you think I am writing this stupid post?
